Born on July 1, 1956 in Monmouth, Illinois, he was the son of Earl and Betty Lou (Blair) Babcock. He married the love of his life, Tina Riley, on February 24, 1996 at the First Christian Church in Monmouth. David is survived by his wife; mother, Betty Lou, Overland Park, KS; step-son, Christopher Colwell,  Galesburg; brothers, Paul (Dianna) Babcock, St. Louis Park, MN; Richard Babcock, San Jose, CA; sister Barbara (Joseph) McDade, Overland Park, KS; niece, Meagan (Blake) Brashear; three nephews, Matthew McDade, Benjamin and Jeffrey Babcock. He was preceded in death by his father.

David graduated from Carl Sandburg College with an Associate’s degree. He worked for Crop Production Services for over 30 years rising to plant manager and safety coordinator.  He gained the reputation as CPS “go-to” guy. Known as a "gearhead," he built a hemi engine in his bedroom during his teen years and was later a mechanic for alcohol funny cars.  David attended the Indy 500 for 34 consecutive years being listed in the 100th anniversary program. David was a gun enthusiast, hunter, NRA lifetime member, Galesburg Rifle Club, and Tac-Shack. David was a family man, following his niece and nephews in their milestones of life, including a 20 + year traditional fishing trip to Northern Minnesota.  Lending a helping hand to anyone in need, his giving spirit will live on as David was an organ donor for the Gift of Hope Organization.
