Obituary for Patricia "Trish" Engelhaupt

Patricia “Trish” Engelhaupt passed away November 20th, 2018 at home. She was born November 22, 1954 to John F. Sullivan and Margaret R. (Gillen) Sullivan of Kerry Acre Farm, Galesburg, both of whom preceded her death. 

Trish was educated at Costa Catholic School until the close of the High School in 1971. She graduated from GHS in 1972. She received her bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology (SLP) from Creighton University, and her Masters degree (SLP) from University of Nebraska, Omaha, NE. 

Trish married Patrick J. Engelhaupt on August 6, 1977 at St. Patrick’s Church, in Galesburg. Trish is survived by her husband, Patrick Engelhaupt, son Michael (Cody) Engelhaupt, granddaughters Ellie, Macy, and Teagan, Blaine, MN; son Matthew Engelhaupt, Moline, IL; sisters SR. Ann Sullivan, SP, Terra Haute, IN; Rebecca Sullivan, Julie Sullivan, and a brother Timothy E. (Colleen) Sullivan, Galesburg, IL. A brother-in-law Robert Engelhaupt, Alliance NE; a brother-in-law Thomas Hart, Oregon House, CA; a sister-in-law Mary (John) Hewitt, Omaha, NE; and a sister-in-law Kelly (Mike) Fitchhorn, Omaha, NE;aunts and uncles from Monmouth, and many cousins from Galesburg and Monmouth; many nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews. 

Trish enjoyed her years growing up on the farm and participating in 4H events and showing livestock. She served on the Soangetaha Country Club Ladies Golf League both 9 hole and 18 hole groups. She served on various committees and chairman positions while at SCC.

 Trish retired on May 22nd, 2017 from Knox-Warren Special Education Department as a Coordinator of Speech and Language services. She also served in this capacity in Bettendorf, IA; Duluth MN; Brainerd, MN; and Omaha, NE. She also served the Head Start program in Monmouth. Trish served for 6 years on the Camp Kidz Board and 2 years on the KCCDD Human Rights Committee. 

Trish leaves behind many friends and family members who loved and admired her for her caring and compassionate nature and ability to be understanding and supportive of their individual needs. Her greatest accomplishments in life were to be a mother and grandmother and her dedication to the field of Special Education, Speech and Language Services. 

Cremation will be accorded with arrangements entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Sunday November 25th at Watson-Thomas Funeral home from 5-8. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. A memorial mass will be at St. Patrick’s Church on Monday, November 26th at 10 a.m. Father Jacob Rose will officiate. Memorials may be given to KCCDD, Camp Kidz and Illinois Cancer Center Foundation.
