Albert C. "Shorty" Harris, age 100, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 8:05 am on September 26, 2012 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. He was born on August 7, 1912 in the Berwick Community and is the son of Melville E and Mila C. Ingram Harris. Shorty was raised in Berwick where he attended rural schools. He was married to Helen Lucille Parrish on January 22, 1938 in Canton, Missouri. She is surviving. Shorty began work at Karl Munson Skelgas and Appliance Store where he drove and was in sales. He then was employed at Monmouth Hospital in the maintenance department, and later was a mechanic for Harold Thompson Buick / Pontiac Garage in Monmouth. In 1947 Shorty opened his own garage on North H Street which he later moved to 519 North D Street. Shorty sold the business and retired on December 31, 1977. He is a member and Elder of Heritage United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth where he has also served on it's Trustee board in buildings and grounds. Shorty enjoyed woodworking, metal working and machinery, specializing in his world famous "Squirrel Fans" Surviving is his wife Lucille Harris of Monmouth, IL., two daughters Janet (Larry) Cunningham of Sahuarita, AZ. and Linda (Ron) Switzer of Florence, AZ and one son Larry Harris of Tucson, AZ. Five grandchildren survive, Todd (Robin) Cunningham, Sue (Todd) Dixon, Sheri (Paul) Campbell, Krissy (Todd) Geren, and Wendy Harris. Seven great grandchildren are also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. Services:A funeral service will be 10:30 am on Saturday September 29, 2012 at Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, IL. His family plans a visitation for the hour prior to the service at Heritage Church from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Saturday. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for Heritage United Presbyterian Church.
