Alfred M. Livingston, age 79, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 6:20 pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on July 28, 1935 in Eldon, Missouri and is the son of Richard Stanley and Rayma Clara (Brumley) Livingston. Al attended schools in Granite City, Illinois and graduated from Granite City High School. After school, he joined the Navy. On October 10, 1959, Al married Mary Jean Dawdy at the First Christian Church in Galesburg, IL. Al attended the Illinois State Police Academy and served with the Illinois State Police for 30 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant in 1988. He then worked at Anchor Hardware in Oquawka and Monmouth Mutual Insurance in Monmouth. Al loved astronomy and belonged to Burlington Astronomy Club. He was active in the Oquawka United Methodist Church where he served on many committees within the Church. Al was also involved in the Boy Scouts, the Henderson County Historical Society, and Henderson County Tourism. Al was well known in the area for his work in the Oquawka Masonic Lodge. Al is survived by his wife Mary Jean, two sons; Stanley (Maggie) Livingston of Oquawka, IL. and Scott (Jenny) Livingston of Keithsburg, IL., one daughter; Lorrie K. Johnson of Dixon, IL. Also surviving are one grandson; Baylan, two granddaughters; Amber and Amanda and three great-granddaughters; Bailyn, Angelina, and Zakyah. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services:A Celebration of Life is planned for 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, IL. A Masonic Service will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow the service at Oquawka Cemetery. Al's family plans to receive friends from 9:00-10:00 am prior to the services at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established for the Oquawka United Methodist Church.
