Alice L. Welch

Alice L. Welch, age 88, of Henderson County, passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010, at Roseville Country Manor, Roseville, Ill. Alice was born on June 12, 1921 in Abingdon, Illinois. She is the daughter of Verne and Ina May Day Senders. She was raised in the rural Abingdon area attending rural schools/ She was a long-time learner earning her diploma from Yorkwood High School in 1969 at the age of 48. She was married to Kenneth L. Welch on March 9, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. She worked alongside of her husband as a farmer's wife from 1946 to his passing on July 11, 1993. Between 1961 to 1987 she held jobs at both Patton Seed and Hardware and Wiley Light Jewelers.both of Monmouth retiring from J.C.Penny in Galesburg. She also was an experienced seamstress and did alterations for persons locally for many years. She hand stitched 87 quilts and did all manner of sewing for a wide clientele. She was an active member of Rozetta Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters Mary Alice Welch of Jersey Shores, Pennsylvania and Becky Stalcup of Jonesboro, Arkansas. There are three sons Robert L. and MaryJo Welch of Wilmington, North Carolina, John D. and Pamela Welch of Lacey, Washington, and Scott R. Welch of Wyoming, Michigan. There are thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two sisters survive Anna Ruth Riley of Abiingdon, Illinois and Eva Hughes of Mankato, Minnesota. Alice is preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, one son Michael, and her grandson Christopher. Services:A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Ill. Interment will be in the Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron, Ill. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 10, at Turnbull where her family will be present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial fund is being established for Rozetta Baptist Church.
