Alma Genevieve "Genie" Doty Profile Photo

Alma Genevieve "Genie" Doty, age 77, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at the Roseville Rehab & Health Care Center on Sunday March 18, at 12:15 pm. Genie was born on February 8, 1935 in Monmouth, and is the daughter of Hubert Frank and Alma Lottie Feighner Doty. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended public schools and Monmouth High School. She then received her degree in Education from Monmouth College in 1957. She then attained her Master's degree from Western Illinois University in 1970. Genie began teaching at Streator Elementary in Streator, Illinois for several years. She then was employed in St.Louis, at Wilson Elementary for several years. She came to Harding Elementary School in Monmouth, where she taught fourth grade and later was in charge of the library media center. From then until more recently she served as Children's Librarian at the Warren County Library. She was formerly a member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. Surviving is one brother William Doty, one niece Catherine Doty, MD ( husband Steve Novac) and one nephew William H Doty (Linda) all of St. Louis, Missouri. There are five great nieces and also surviving are her special friends James, Marilyn, Steven, and Karen Vandeveer. She is preceded in death by her parents, two aunts, and three uncles. Services:A committal service for her interment is planned at 11:00 am at the Monmouth Cemetery on Saturday. Her memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday at Turnbull Funeral Home. Her family plans to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the memorial service. A memorial fund is being established for the Media Center at Harding Elementary School in Monmouth, Illinois.
