Andrew Joseph “A.J.” Fields, 37, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on June 10, 2026. Though his time here was far too short, Andrew lived a life marked by passion, loyalty, athletic excellence and a deep love for those closest to him.

Born to Mark & Julie Fields on June 9, 1989, AJ was a devoted son, loving brother, grandson, uncle and friend. He is survived by his parents, his brothers, David (Kayla) Fields, Christopher Fields and Nicholas Fields; his grandmothers, Ann Fields and Mary Vega; his nephews, Paxton and Trase Fields and Jamie Hayes. His aunt, Vicki (Roger) Stewart; his uncles, Greg Fields and Jerry (Rebecca) Fields; his cousins, Josh (Michelle) Fields, Janey Fields, April Esquivel, Stephen Stewart and Sarah Stewart along with countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Garold Fields and Joe Vega and his uncle David Vega.

AJ was a gifted athlete whose accomplishments on the baseball field earned him recognition as one of the finest players to come through Galesburg High School. During his years at GHS, he earned numerous athletic honors, including First Team All-State recognition. His talent, dedication and love of competition made him a respected teammate and formidable opponent.

AJ continued his baseball career with American Legion Baseball before advancing to the collegiate level. He played college baseball at Muscatine Community College, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and William Penn University, where he earned his degree. His love for the game extended beyond his playing days, as he proudly served as an assistant baseball coach at Carl Sandburg College. The friendships, experiences, and lessons gained through baseball remained among his most treasured memories throughout his life.

Professionally, Andrew built a successful career in sales. He worked for G&M Distributors, Feldco and most recently Hayfield where he was respected for his work ethic, personality and ability to connect with others.

Outside of work, AJ loved cooking for family and friends, spending time on the golf course, and enjoying days on the water boating. A devoted sports fan, he faithfully followed the St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys and the Fighting Illini. Whether attending a game, watching from home, or discussing sports with friends and family, his enthusiasm was unmatched.

More important than any achievement, however, was the way AJ connected with people. He had a generous heart, a quick smile and a personality that drew others to him. He created lasting memories with family and friends through so much laughter, shared experiences and his unwavering loyalty. AJ’s life left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation for AJ will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Galesburg. Father Jeffrey Stirniman will officiate.
