Andrew Milton Melvin, age 95, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away suddenly at his residence in Oquawka, in the earlier morning hours of Sunday, August 25, 2013. Andrew was born April 28,1918, in Delavan, Minnesota the son of Whitney E. and Edith Renstrom Melvin. He married Rosalie May Moffitt on January 18,1948, at the Biggsville United Methodist Church. She survives. Andy served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Oquawka United Methodist Church, the Biggsville American Legion Post 1176, the Biggsville Lions Club and the Oquawka Eagles club. Andy and Rosalie also have been active in the Oquawka Museum. Andy graduated from Biggsville High School in 1936. Andy or "Augur" as he was referred to, was a farmer for over 40 years on the family Centennial Farm east of Biggsville before retiring in 1987. He and Rosalie then moved to their riverside home in Oquawka, where he enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and star-gazing. Andy was most interested in his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; and loved to follow them in their activities. Andy was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie, children, Edward (Pamela) Melvin of Monmouth, Dennis (Carrie) Melvin and Anne (Leonard) Hass both of Oquawka. There are seven grandchildren and four great grand children. Services:A Memorial service is planned on Saturday, August 31,2013 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka,IL. and will be conducted by Reverend Mark Baker. Cremation has been accorded. The family will receive friends before the service from 9:00 am to 10:30 am prior to the service. Fellowship will follow after the service at the Oquawka Eagles Club. A memorial fund has been established for the Oquawka Eagles Club.
