Ann Hier, age 78, of Galesburg, Illinois; passed away at 9:23 pm on June 30, 2011 at Seminary Manor Health Care in Galesburg. She was born June 15, 1933 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the daughter of Hugh Wesley and Pauline Terry Dixon. She was raised and educated in Galesburg, attending it's schools and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951. Ann was previously married to Russel U. Lydic. She later married James W. Hier on August 12, 1974 in Cameron, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1995. Ann was first employed at Formfit in Monmouth as a seamstress. She then became a stay-at-home Mom when her son Paul was born. Later, she worked for many years in Quality Control for Galesburg Admiral/Maytag Corporation. She retired in 1998. She then worked several years at the Galesburg Public Library. She is a member of the Cameron Christian Church and the Oquawka Eagles Aerie. She was an avid reader and enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas. She enjoyed going to the club in New Boston, Illinois on the weekends. She loved her jewelry, her family, and her friends. She is survived by her son Paul Lydic (Diane) of Monmouth, Illinois and daughters Rita Hier of Galesburg, IL; Rose Johnson (Roger) of Trenton, MO; and Ruth Johnson of Eldridge, IA. There are three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one brother Paul Dixon (Diane) of Palmero, ME. Her special friends survives John Whitson of Galesburg, Illinois and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Services:A funeral service will be on Wednesday July 6th at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth at 2:00 pm. Her family plans visitation at the funeral home for the hour prior to the service 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the Galesburg Public Library.
