Audrey M. Irons, age 101, of Monmouth, IL; passed away at Legacy Estates in Monmouth, Illinois on January 21, 2014 at 10:05 am. Audrey was born on August 17, 1912 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Carl A and Florence M. Edoff Themanson. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended school and graduated High School with the class of 1930. Audrey, in her earlier years also played the position of Pitcher on the softball team "the Kimbles". She was married to Raymond L. Irons on February 1, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was a clerk and was employed locally and various businesses to include Spurgeons, F.W.Woolworth, Jane Leslies Ladies Apparel, Ford Hopkins, at Beaty's Department Store, and at Brown Lynch Scott and Company. Audrey was also very active in the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and held most of it's offices. She became a life member in 1992 and was the leading Poppy Salesperson. Audrey was an avid Cubs fan and loved Ice Skating, Hunting, Fishing, Camping, and going to the boat. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Garner and her Granddaughter Sandy (Joel) Peterson, both of Oquawka, IL. Her grandson, David(Susan) Icenogle also survives in Belleville, Illinois. There are six great grandchildren, seven great, great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. One sister survives, Helen Babcock of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, one sister, one grandson, and one step Son. Services:A funeral service and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Service will be on Satruday , January 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Burial will be in the Monmouth City Cemetery following. Her family plans to receive friends for visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service. Memorial contributions are for the VFW Ladies Auxlliary.
