Avis V. Schlicker

Avis Vivian Schlicker, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 10:00 am at Trinity West in Rock Island, Illinois. Avis was born February 13, 1918 in Bemidji, Minnesota and is the daughter of Peter and Maude Ellen (Ames) Rice. Her early life was in Bemidji, she moved to McAllen, Texas in 1930 and Graduated from McAllen High School in McAllen, Texas. She married Reverend Harold John Albert Schlicker on June 1, 1943 in McAllen, Texas. While in McAllen Avis was employed as an operator of Bell Telephone Company. Avis was an untiring help mate with her husband as they ministered in Del Rio, Katy, and Pattison, Texas; Bible Grove, and Manito, Illinois; and Unionville, Michigan, and Shell Rock, Iowa. Avis last lived in Readlyn, Iowa before coming to Monmouth, Illinois in 1989. Avis was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and lifelong member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid. She currently is a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois. Avis' faith, family, and outreach to others were her life focus. Surviving Avis are two daughters Janice Anderson ( Arthur ) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Evelyn Volz ( Kurt ) of Monmouth, Illinois. Four Sons David Schlicker ( Esther) of Cologne, Minnesota, Melvin Schlicker ( Marlene ) of Bellingham, Washington, Arden Schlicker ( Chris ) of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Richard Schlicker ( Marion ) of Reed City, Michigan. Grandchildren Dana Gillespie, Melanie Schlicker, Tonia Pearse, Donald Schlicker, Tavis Schlicker, Nathan Volz, Phillip Schlicker, Emalie Cobb, Kayla Schlicker, Kathleen Volz, Bonnie Schlicker, Kelsey Schlicker, Laura Volz, Megan Schlicker, Caitlin Volz. Thirteen Great Grandchildren also survive. She is also survived by her sister, Clarice Anderson ( Erick ) of Grass Valley, California. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, son Donald, and a brother Lawrence Rice Services:A funeral service for Avis is planned on Saturday February 2nd at 9:00 am at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, Iowa. Her family plans to receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Memorial funds have been designated for either Lutheran Bible Translators or the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
