Barbara Ann Burkett

Barbara Ann Burkett, age 73, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 11:45pm at Elizabeth House Hospice Center in Flat Rock, NC. She was born on October 15 in Burlington, Iowa, daughter of Robert K. Burkett and Frances Turner Burkett. She was raised in her much loved hometown of Biggsville Illinois. She graduated from Monmouth College. She received a Law degree from The University of Iowa. During her professional career she worked as a Trust Officer at the Iowa Des Moines National Bank, Legal Aid in Danville, Illinois. She was a Law Professor at the University of Arkansas, Teaching Fellow at Harvard University, and a Law Professor at the University of Florida. She then spent many years in private practice in Gainesville Florida were she specialized in Family Law, Wills and Trusts. She was a member of the Gainesville Altrusa Club and served on the board of Three River Legal Services. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Burkett of Hendersonville, NC. Grandson Kelly Burkett his wife Tracy Burkett and three great grandchildren, Emma Beth Burkett, Luca Julian Burkett, and Noah James Burkett all of Concord, NC. She will be missed by her family and friends. A graveside funeral service for the committal of her ashes will be at the Biggsville Township Cemetery on Saturday January 9, 2016 at 11:00 am. Visitation and calling hours are not being planned at this time. A memorial service will be held in Gainesville, Florida at a later date. Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville is in charge of the local arrangements.
