Bernice S. Critser, age 78, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Bernice was born on April 23, 1929, in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest E. and Nellie Ford Sandall. She was reared and educated in Genoa, Illinois until the age of 14 when her family moved to Yorkville, Illinois. After graduating from Yorkville High School, Bernice attended Knox College where she received her degree in 1951 and then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. Bernice married Kenneth E. Critser on March 18, 1951 in Yorkville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1983. She was a teacher and homemaker. Bernice was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church where she had served as Elder and Trustee. She was active in the community and served on the District 38 School Board and it's Foundation, the Warren County Library Board, Habitat for Humanity and the board of Buchanan Center for the Arts Board. She was a member of the Community Medical Center Auxiliary and also Chapter E of PEO. She is survived by two sons, John K. Critser and Beth of Columbia, Missouri and James W. Critser and Diana of Monmouth., Two Grandaughters Jessie Critser and Rebecca A. Crister Two grandsons Dirk J . Critser and Nikki and Paul J. Critser and Julie. Also surviving are three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister. Services:A memorial service will be at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at 10:00 am. Cremation has been accorded. Fellowship will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the memorial service. A memorial fund is being established for either Faith United Presbyterian Church of Buchanan Center for the Arts or Plant a tree in her memory.
