Betty Jean " Sis " Whitmore

Betty Jean "Sis" Whitmore, age 60, of Oquawka, passed on January 21, 2013 at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Illinois. She was born June 18, 1952 in Burlington, Iowa, and is the Daughter of Rollie and Dixie Norville Thompson. She was raised in Gladstone and Henderson County where she attended public school and Monmouth High School. She first was married to Fred Hummel and later was married to Leroy Spiker on September 20, 1984 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1989. She then married Leonard "Hot Shot" Whitmore on March 15, 2001 in Oquawka, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 6, 2005. Betty was first employed at Applegate Nursing Home in Monmouth as a Nurses Aid for a number of years. She then was employed at Burlington Basket Co. and later at Vista Bakery, both in Burlington, Iowa. Lastly she was a bus driver for West Central School District in Henderson County. Betty enjoyed working with horses. She loved her children and grandchildren, camping, fishing, crocheting, cooking, and her dogs. Betty is survived by her Step-Father, Gerald Stanley of Oquawka, Illinois and three daughters, Margaret (Stephen) Bielser of Oquawka; Mary Audra (Ron) Peck of Galesburg; and Shannon (Jessie) Conchas of Oquawka. Eight Grandchildren. Three sisters, Ruth (Roger)Hurt; Debora (Jeff) Anderson; Connie Thompson and her companion Paul Druin, all of Oquawka, Illinois. Also, numerous Nieces and Nephews are surviving. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and both husbands, Leroy and Leonard. Services:A funeral service will be on Saturday at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Her family plans visitation on Friday evening with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established by her family.
