Billy G. Gay

Billy G. Gay, age 88, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 6:35 am on Sunday January 12, 2014 at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Illinois. Billy was born on December 21, 1924 in Comanche, Oklahoma, and is the son of Huford H. and Catherine Gregory Gay. He was raised in the oil fields as the family moved around a lot. Billy graduated from Grayville High School with the class of 1942. He then attended a year at the University of Illinois. Billy entered the United States Navy and was an aviation specialist serving his time stateside. Billy married Allene Stone in 1946 in Kentucky. She preceded him in death in 1992. Billy was employed by Bovaird Supply Company in Grayville, Illinois for most of his career. He was a Store manager in Oil Field Supply. He was of the Baptist Faith. He retired in the 1980's and in retirement enjoyed constructing model cars and airplanes and putting together kits. He is survived by his brother Sam K. Gay of Reno, Nevada and his Niece Mary C. (Ron) Patton also of Reno, and his nephew, Paul G. Gay of Carlsbad, California. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a number of Aunts and Uncles. Services:A graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday morning January 16, 2014 in the Oquawka Cemetery. His family plans to gather at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka for the hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Biggsville Cemetery. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka is in charge of the arrangements.
