Billy Lee Mettler

Billy Lee Mettler, 81 of Rocky Mount Mo. formerly of Monmouth, died March 29;2009 at Osage Beach Health Care Center in Osage Beach, Mo. He was born June 19,1927 in Monmouth,Ill. the son of Theodore and Ruth Lee Mettler. He married Betty Lou Shawler Nov. 19, 1949 in Monmouth. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1995. Billy Lee was a veteran serving in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II and was a Corporal in the Army during peace time. While in Monmouth, Billy Lee was employed many years with Baldridge Roofing, the Maple City Dairy, and at the Gambles Skogmo Warehouse in Monmouth. Billy was baptized in the Ninth Avenue United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth. He was a member of the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion, the Am Vets, and the Eagles Aerie 3478. He liked to fish and hunt and was an avid Cub and White Sox fan. He is survived by four sons, William (Margaret) Mettler of Cameron; Gary (Carolyn) Mettler of Rocky Mount, Mo; Joey Mettler of Roseville; Ron Mettler of Monmouth; six granddaughters, Shawnda (Tony) Bushong of Fort Worth, Tx; Trona (Kyle) Straight of Rocky Mount,Mo; Whitney Mettler of Monmouth; Jadie Mettler Hedwall of Hayden, Colo; Jennifer Mettler of Monmouth; Cassie Mettler of Phoenix, Ariz; Brenda Sage of Cameron, one grandson, Cody Mettler of Rocky Mount, Mo; nine great grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Zane, Brooklyn, Jamie. Alexandria, Bradley, Michael and Katelyn. Two sisters survive Margaret Briton of Galesburg and Lois Tatman of Monmouth, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, four sisters, and two grandchildren, Jesse Mettler of Monmouth and Angie Valdez of Monmouth. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment with military will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth. Billy's family will be present to receive friends on Thursday, April 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Turnbull's. A memorial fund is being established for Diabetes.
