Bradley J. Scanlan, age 45, of Monmouth, passed away at 2:03 a.m., Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill. He was born on January 31, 1965 in Burlington, Ia., the son of Gale and Connie Jones Scanlan. Brad was raised by his grandmother Ida Jackson in Fountain Green, Ill. and attended local schools. He graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1983. Brad then served in the United States Army from 1983 to 1987. Brad married Robin R. Schnicker on December 21, 1990 in Burlington, Ia., she survives. In 1997, he joined the National Guard and was a member of the 123rd Field Artillery. He served in Iraq for one year in 2005. Brad was a correctional officer at the Henry C. Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg since 1997. He was a member of the A Lincoln lodge 518 AF & AM in Kirkwood. Brad loved to hunt, work on and ride motorcycles. Surviving Brad is his wife, Robin of Monmouth, two sons; Preston Scanlan of Quincy, Ill., Zachary Scanlan of Alexis, Ill., two daughters; Hollie Scanlan of Galesburg, Ill., and Taylor Scanlan of Monmouth. Also surviving is one brother Todd Scanlan of Paris, Tn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment with Military Honors will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Turnbulls where his family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established for his daughter's education.
