Buford "Boots" Young, age 84 of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. He was born on April 23, 1929 in Rushville, Illinois, the son of Carl and Martha (Keenan) Young. He graduated from Table Grove High School in 1946. Boots proudly served his country for three years in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Corporal. He married Eleanore "Ellie" Quinn on November 15, 1952 in Frankfurt, Germany. Boots worked on the maintenance staff of Community Memorial Hospital for 15 years. He also worked at Torley's Hardware and Well's Pet Food. He also installed Life Line Medical Alert systems in local homes for many years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus here in Monmouth. Boots is survived by his wife Ellie, two daughters, Tara (Richard) Speck of Monmouth, Cathy Westman of Knoxville, Illinois, one son, Bill (Cathy) Young of Monmouth, two sisters, Jean Pettet of Canton, Illinois, Janie Westra of Chandler, Illinois, and one brother, Larry (Suzie) Young of Peoria, Illinois. Also surviving are five granddaughters, one grandson, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Boots was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Richard and Joe, one great-granddaughter, Ireland, brothers, John, Midge, Jack, Clair, and one infant brother. Services:Cremation is being accorded. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Monmouth. A memorial fund has been established in his memory for Parkinson's Disease.
