Burt R. Fullerton, age 94 of Monmouth, passed away at 8:56 a.m. , Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, Ill. He was born on the family farm July 8, 1917, Keithsburg, Ill., The son of Robert D. and Ona Ann (Harrison) Fullerton. He was educated in Keithsburg, graduating from high school in 1936. He helped his father with the family farm until he was called into the Army in October of 1942 being stationed at Camp Campbell, Kentucky in the 12th Armored Division, until May of 1943. Burt married Carroll Houfburg on July 30, 1941. She preceded him in death in September of 1995. Burt and Shirley Neill were married on October 25, 1999. She survives him. Burt started farming for himself in 1944 on 232 acres of his own land in Keithsburg and also rented 240 acres. He farmed in Biggsville, Stronghurst and Kirkwood until moving to Monmouth where he bought and farmed 160 acres North of West Harlem Avenue. He later sold 14 acres to the City of Monmouth which was later developed into the Monmouth Hospital (now OSF HOLY FAMILY MEDICAL CENTER. Other developments were made from that land along West Harlem Avenue. After retiring from farming, Burt did carpenter work in and around Monmouth for 25 years, had his State Electrical License, and also drove school buses for Cavanaugh Bus Service. Burt was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, serving as the District Deputy for one year. He also was a member of the Monmouth Kiwanis Club, and the United Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood where he served as an Elder until moving to Monmouth. He also served as an Elder in the West Side U.P.Church and later in the Heritage U.P. Church of Monmouth. He is currently a member of the 1st Methodist Church of Monmouth. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by two sons; David (Angie) Fullerton of Lake Mary, Florida; Bob (Cindy) Fullerton of Ankeny, Iowa; six grandchildren; Michelle (Ray) Aguarrevere of Florida; also Lavonne, Kelly, Lamont and Mark; 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are nephews Ron (Betty) Fullerton and Dennis (Diana) Fullerton of Keithsburg. Also surviving are beloved step-children; Wendy (Butch) Pinney; Linda (Randy) Seals; Rick (Kathy) Levine; Mary Schuytema; and step. grandchildren Dr. Jason Seals (Lori), Robert Pinney, Josh Pinney, Erin Bennett (Troy), Emmery Schuytema, CarliMae Schuytema, Brian Armstrong and Rob Armstrong (Carrie) and step great grandchildren George and Meadow Seals; and Aiden, Brady, and Jayson Armstrong. Preceding him in death would be his parents, first wife, one brother Dwain and nephew Roger Services:A funeral service will be on Saturday November 5, 2011 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. His family plans to receive friends for an hour prior to the service 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the 1st United Methodist Church of Monmouth or Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
