Dr. Carl W. Johnson, age 92, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away on December 2, 2012 at 5:55 am at his residence in Courtyard Estates. Carl was born on October 30, 1920 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Carl W. and Dora Parrish Johnson. Carl attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1939. He then attended and completed his pre-dentistry degree at Drake University in DesMoines, IA in 1943. Carl then attained his Dentistry degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1950. Carl served his country overseas in the Pacific, namely Timian, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. He served in the United States Marine Corp and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Carl married Polly Ann Martin on January 20, 1946 here in Monmouth and she is surviving him. Carl practiced dentistry and owned the clinic in Monmouth for forty years, at 225 South 1st Street and retired in 1991. Carl is a member of the Drake University "D" Club for football, is listed in Who's Who Among American Universities, and is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Carl also served a number of years on the school board of District 38, and served as it's president for eight years. He also is a member of First United Methodist Church. He also served on the board of directors for Western Stoneware for a number of years. Carl loved fishing, and was an Avid sports fan, supporting the Chicago Cubs and the Bears. He also attended all of his grandchildren's sports and other events. He enjoyed doing yard work and most all loved being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Polly A. Johnson of Monmouth, IL; two sons, Dr. David (Carol) Johnson of Decatur, Illinois and Jon (Kristine) Johnson of Tampa, Fl.; and one daughter Rebecca (Joe) Carlson of Monmouth, Illinois. There are ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also, Carl's brother Earl Johnson survives in Newton, Iowa and a number of nieces and nephews to include his niece Linda (May) Miller. of Macomb, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services:A memorial service for Carl is planned at 10:30 am on Friday December 7, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Cremation has been accorded. A visitation with his family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm will be on Thursday evening at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment of his ashes, with Military Honors, will be at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for either the Warren County District Library or First United Methodist Church of Monmouth, Illinois.
