Carl E. Peterson, Sr., age 68, of Burlington, Ia., passed away at 6:18 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Ia. Carl was born on September 18, 1943 in Monmouth, and is the son of Fred and Clara Ghrist Peterson. He was reared and educated in Henderson County and graduated from Union High School in 1962. Carl served 4 years in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Worden as a sonar man. He married Lucy Bohnenkamp on April 30, 2003, she survives. Carl was previously married to Cheryl Spicknal. He worked for 22 years at J. I. Case in Burlington as a fabricator. He later went to work at Catfish Bend Casino as a dealer for 5 years. Carl enjoyed playing golf, hunting arrowheads, playing cards especially poker, baseball, referring basketball, playing the guitar, singing, and spending time with his family. Carl is survived by his wife Lucy Peterson of Burlington, Ia., one son Carl Peterson, Jr. (Diana) of Danville, Ia., step daughter Rena Nerhus of Iowa City, Ia., two step sons; Brent Nerhus and Mark Moyers both of Burlington, Ia. Two grandsons; Jeff Peterson (Bobbi) of Gladstone, Ill., John Stewart Jr. (Pauletta) of Albia, Ia., one great grandson Grayer Peterson of Gladstone, Ill.. Also surviving is one brother John Peterson (Sandy) of Oquawka, numerous half brothers, half sisters, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Ill. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the funeral home where his family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund will be designated at a later date.
