Carol A Davis

Carol Davis, age 88, of East Galesburg passed peacefully due to natural causes on August 2, 2026, in Galesburg, Illinois.

Carol moved to Galesburg in the late 1950s to work as an insurance secretary. She held many administrative assistant positions during her working years, mostly for physicians. She met the love of her life, Harry Davis, on a train ride from her hometown back to Galesburg. They were married for 44 years before his passing in 2004. She was proud to be married to Mr. Davis, who was a beloved Galesburg District 205 teacher.

Carol was fiercely independent, and she was never without her lipstick or a funny remark. Carol and Harry tried for nine years before having their daughter and she always said, “We had fun trying.” She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Dilraj) Sidhu of Milwaukee, WI who will carry on the tradition of always wearing her lipstick when in public. Carol adored her large family of origin and was preceded in death by her parents (Orlen and Vilda), two sisters (Linda and Rosmary), two brothers (Max and Jeff). Carol is survived by her siblings Barbara Jo, Nancy, Patsy, Phillip and Steven, who treasure her memory.

Carol was an excellent cook and was nicknamed “Carol Crocker” by friends. In her later years, her go-to was Italian Beef. When you make it for your loved ones, raise a glass to Carol. Place a 2-3 pound beef roast, a 12 oz. beer, a small jar of pepperoncini peppers with the juice, and a few shakes of dried oregano in your crockpot. Let it cook on low for 8-9 hours. Shred and serve over a roll and top with provolone.

Carol had a flair for design and could pull together an outfit and accessorize it flawlessly. In her early adulthood, she did some modeling for a local department store. Perhaps this influenced her to never have a hair out of place and her nails always painted. She kept an immaculate, stylish home filled with the best aromas.

She did not want any sort of memorial service and wanted to be cremated. Her wishes were to have her ashes, as well as Harry’s, sprinkled together in a lake, river and ocean, someplace where they could go fishing (or rather where Harry could go fishing and Carol could read).

Carol and Harry, through their unwavering love for reading and learning, instilled a passion for books in their daughter. In their honor and memories, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the:
