Carole L. Martin, age 70, of Roseville, Illinois; passed away at 4:28 pm on March 28, 2009 at Courtyard Estates of Monmouth. Carole was born on January 3, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is the daughter of Paul W. and Elsie Ball Stroede. The first part of her life was spent in different areas of Wisconsin. For a time, she was employed at Kohls Grocery Stores and Sentry Grocery Stores both in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1977 she met Grant V. Martin at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois. They were married there on November 5, 1978. They have spent the next thirty-one years working and playing twenty-four/seven beginning on the farm near Roseville, Illinois. The last several winters have been at their home by Kentucky Lake in Western Kentucky and spending summers at their home by Woman Lake in Northern Minnesota. She enjoyed her time by the lakes, her flower gardens, the horse races at Hot Springs, Arkansas and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers. During the 1980's and 1990's Carole and Grant traveled extensively in the U.S. and collected an extensive collection of Vintage "Fiesta" ware pottery. Carole was known as the "Queen of Fiesta". Carole, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer is survived by her husband Grant Martin of Roseville and her daughter Toni Lee Tatro of Kirkwood, Ill. and two sons Greg M. Tatro of Peoria, Illinois and Troy L. Tatro and wife Dawn of Monmouth, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her son Kyle S. Tatro, and Stepson Dr. Jay Scott Martin. Services:A funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Carole's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Valhalla Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospices of America.
