Carson V. Dowell

Carson V. Dowell, age 81, of Monmouth, passed away at 8:40 a.m., Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Roseville Country Manor in Roseville, Ill. He was born on March 24, 1928 in Biggsville, Ill., the son of Daryl and Jessie Gittings Dowell. He was reared in Biggsville, Ill, he moved to Warren County as a young boy, he graduated from Roseville High School in 1946. Served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Carson married Beth I. Burford on November 29, 1952, in Monmouth, Illinois, she is surviving. He began work as an electrician at Paul's Appliance in Roseville, Ill. He then farmed for 18 years in Warren County in grain and livestock. Carson also worked at Gale Products in Galesburg as a machinist until its closing. He is a member and deacon of Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth. He is a 50 year member of the Roseville Lodge 519 AF&AM. Carson is also a member of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge 37 AF&AM, and Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post 136 in Monmouth. Carson loved to fish, and enjoyed wood working. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Surviving is his wife Beth Dowell of Monmouth, one son Lynn Dowell (Mary Ann) of Taylor Ridge, Ill., Four Grandchildren, Jarrod Dowell of Downers Grove, Ill., Morgan, Hilary and Ethan Dowell all of Taylor Ridge, Ill. Also surviving is one sister, Flora Lawhorn of Milan, Ill., and sister-in-law Barbara Johnson of Monmouth, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carson was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Zenas Dowell. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Heritage Presbyterian Church in Monmouth. His family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment with military honors will be in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. A memorial fund has been established for the Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth.
