Charles R. "Chuck" Montgomery, age 85, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away on Tuesday evening at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Chuck was born June 27, 1922 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Henry and Ella Hinkle Montgomery. He was raised in Monmouth and attended Monmouth Schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. Chuck then entered service enlisting in the Army and was a driver in many varied capacities during World War II. During his service he was awarded two Bronze Stars. After the war he married Doris Lucille Mettler on July 9, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois. She preceded him on May 18, 2004. Chuck first worked at the Monmouth Stoneware Company for 3 or 4 years after which he started work with Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg, where he was employed for 32 years as a welder. During lay offs he often worked with local farmers doing farm work. Chuck was always doing something and was a very hard worker. He was dedicated to his family and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2301 in Monmouth, Illinois. Chuck also always had an active interest in the Cherokee Nation Association. Surviving Chuck are two daughters Marjorie Waddell of Olatha, Kansas and Betsy Kreminski ( Karl) of Rotonda West, Florida. Four Sons Mitchell Montgomery ( Kim) of Rochelle, Illinois, Harold Montgomery ( Sherry) of Independence, Missouri, Martin Montgomery ( Trish) of Monmouth, Illinois; Joseph Montgomery ( Sandy ) of Tempe, Arizona. Eleven Grandchildren and Ten Great Grandchildren also survive. Two sisters Lucille Knapp ( Ivan) of Pittsfield, Illinois and LaVerne Beatty of Muscatine, Iowa Preceding him in death are his parents, a brother Cecil, and two sisters Ruth Kaiser and Mildred Guerke. Services:A funeral service will be on Friday February 1, 2008 at Turnbull Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Interment with military honors will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. His family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service. A memorial fund is being established for Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
