Charles "Pug" William Whitmore, age 75, of Gladstone, Illinois,died on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, peacefully at his home in Gladstone with his family at his side. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Gladstone, the son of James and Frances (Boughton) Whitmore. He was raised and educated in Gladstone. On November 19, 1960, Pug married Norma Dunne in Keithsburg, IL and she survives. He began employment with Burlington Basket Company as a shipping foreman. Pug retired in 2000 from Yellow Freight Systems where he worked as a tractor trailer operator for 27 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 371. He also worked for Briggs Transportation and Burlington Chicago Cartage, both out of Burlington, Iowa. Pug enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working in his garage where he worked on cars for his family and friends. He also rebuilt and restored several antique cars, built several three wheeled motorcycles, built motor homes, and numerous other projects. Of those who know Pug, he was a "Jack-of-all-Trades". He much enjoyed carpentry work and building his home that he shared with his wife in Gladstone. Pug loved NASCAR and was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Theresa (Anthony) Tee of Punta Gorda, FL and Annette (Douglas) Dennison of Monmouth, IL; two grandsons, Dylan Dennison and Dalton Dennison of Monmouth, IL.; two step-grandchildren, William Tee and Abigail Tee of Georgia; two sisters, Ruby (Glen) Smith of Niota, IL, and Alice "Toots" Anderson of Burlington, Iowa. Several nieces and nephews also are surviving. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Services:A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am on Saturday, October 25, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, IL. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. His family has established a memorial fund for the Henderson County Health Department Hospice.
