Charles J Smith

Charles J. Smith, age 94, of Monmouth, passed away at 8:05 am on October 5, 2012 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Charles was born on September 16, 1918 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Charles J. Harold and Viola Margaret Hartman Smith. Charles was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and Monmouth High School. He served in the Army infantry during World War II. He was married to Irma Lucille Witthun.on August 30, 1945 in Monmouth, Illinois. Charles was a Warren County farmer for many years. He, for a time, was employed at Ralph Well and Company in Monmouth, Illinois. He attended Heritage United Presbyterian Church He also is a member of the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 of the American Legion. Charles enjoyed traveling and playing horseshoes. He is survived by one son Ronald H. Smith of Los Vegas, NV and a sister Maymie Germany of Fawnskin, California. A number of nieces and nephews survive and his special friend Shirley Myers of Monmouth. Charles is preceded in his death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister and his daughter in law. Services:A graveside funeral service will be at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday October 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm with interment to follow.
