Clem H. Campbell, Jr., age 76, of Monmouth, passed away at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at his residence in Monmouth. He was born on November 19, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Clem H. and Ruby Thorpe Campbell. Clem was reared and educated in Galesburg. He served in the United States Marine Corp. Clem married Mamie C. Wallace in April of 1956, she preceded him in death on April 30, 1999. He later married Betty Jo Short on August 24, 1984 in Monmouth, she survives. Clem worked at Gunther Construction for over 30 years as a steam roller operator. He love to cook, and was known for his Barbecue and fudge. Clem enjoyed fishing, and most of all, spending time with his friends and family. Surviving Clem is his wife Betty Jo Campbell of Monmouth, Children; Angie Hoopes (Kerry Mitchell) of Monmouth, Jacqueline Hoopes of Monmouth, Jack Sage o Iowa, Tom Sage (Sandy) of Monmouth, Wendell Sage (Shirley) of Monmouth, Janice Medrano Sindhal (Larry) of Galesburg, Ill., Johnny Sage of Galesburg, Ill., Jacquelyne Turner of Galesburg, Audrey Johnson of Galesburg, Ill., Traci Taylor (Charles) of Iowa City, Ia., Dixie Wilson of Iowa City, Ia., and Vicki Fitzsimmons of Washington State. Brothers; Ulysses Campbell of Galesburg, Ill., Howard Campbell of Galesburg, Ill., Charles "Chuckie" Campbell of Illinois, Chester Campbell of Portland, Or., William "W.H." Campbell of Galesburg, Ill., and two sisters; Nedra Wilson of Galesburg, Ill., and Herlyne Hatcher of Wichita, Ks. Also surviving are twenty three grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and care giver Bev Teel. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mamie, and brothers; Dennis Campbell and Meredith "Sonny" Palmer. Services:A funeral service will be at noon on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will be present from 10:00 a.m. till the time of the service to receive friends at Turnbulls. Cremation will be accorded following the service. A memorial fund has been established for the Monmouth Eagles Club.
