Clinton E. Gaskill, age 85, of Monmouth, passed away at 1:22 am at OSF St.Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL. Clint was born on July 25, 1927 in Abingdon, Illinois and is the son of George D. and Gladys Short Gaskill. He was raised in Kirkwood where he attended school and graduated from Kirkwood High School with the class of 1945. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Hercules and the U.S.S. Altamaha during World War II. He continued serving the military for nearly forty years in the Naval Reserves, Army Reserves, and the National Guard. Clinton married Vivian L. Moore on May 24, 1947 in Berwick, Illinois. She is surviving. Clint first was employed at Gaskill Motor Sales in Monmouth, then worked for State Farm Insurance and the Gambles Store, both in Monmouth. Clint then worked for a time at Admiral Corp. in Galesburg, Illinois. Finally, Clinton was employed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and served as Lock Master at Lock and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.until his retirement in 1988. Clint was a member and past exalted ruler of the former B.P.O.Elks Lodge in Monmouth, and is a life member of the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion and it's honor guard. He also served nine years on the Monmouth Park Board. Clint is an avid golfer at Gibson Woods Golf Course, and enjoyed all sports, especially following the Monmouth/Roseville teams. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Gaskill of Monmouth, his daughter Linda (Charles) Williams of Macon, Illinois and his son Rodney (Kari) Gaskill of Millersville, Missouri. There are two grandsons, Ashton and Clinton Gaskill both of Millersville, MO. One sister survives Rosa (Phil) Kuhnkey of Monmouth, and two sister in laws Betty Gaskill and Eunice Gaskill both of Monmouth, Illinois. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Clint is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter , two brothers, George and Omar; one sister, Ruth; and one son in law, Philip Sargent. Services:A funeral service will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on 11:00 am on Thursday September 6, 2012 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial funds have been established for either Gibson Woods Golf Course or Heritage United Presbyterian Church, both in Monmouth, Illinois.
