Clyde W. "Sonny" Woods Jr.

Clyde W. "Sonny" Woods Jr., 80, of 1790 23rd Ave., Avon (formerly of Monmouth, Illinois and Winter Haven, Florida) died Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Avon Nursing Home. He was born May 4, 1927 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Clyde Woods Sr. and Bernice (Skiles) Woods. He was raised in Monmouth and attended the Monmouth public schools. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1945. He was a member of the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was self-employed in a variety of business ventures in the Monmouth and Galesburg areas. He owned farms in rural Berwick. He was married to JoAnn Sherman with whom he had three daughters, Barbara, Sharon and Marilyn. He was later married to Patricia Farrell, with whom he had one daughter, Mary (Jon) Prain of Avon, Illinois He is survived by his daughters and by two grandchildren, Elizabeth Prain and Robert Prain. He is also survived by one sister, Jean Zalba, of Crockett, California. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a past member of American Legion Posts and VFW Posts in both Illinois and Florida. Services:Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Friday, March 28th at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A graveside service with military honors will be at Monmouth Cemetery immediately following the visitation. Memorials may be made to the Avon Nursing Home.
