Connie J. Decounter

Connie J. DeCounter, age 69, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 2:21 P.M. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Connie was born March 16, 1948 in Macomb, Illinois and is the daughter of Maurice and Catherine (Carlson) DeCounter. She was raised in Goodhope, IL and graduated from Northwestern High School. Connie then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb where she obtained a BS and then a Masters in education. She began teaching in 1971 at the Union School District where she taught kindergarten thru eighth grade. While there, Connie also taught the Gifted/Tallented Programs. She retired in 2012. Connie loved books and reading. Connie is survived by one daughter, Heidi (Knute) Mynderup of Hanford, CA, one son, Damon Alsip of Aurora, IL, two sisters; Dixie Widner of Chicago, IL and Cathie Sanzottera of O'Fallon, MO, one brother, Grover DeCounter of Goodhope, IL, and five grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Darol. Visitation Her family plans to receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Funeral Service A funeral service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment will be in Oquawka Cemetery.
