Dale L.
Detrick

Thomas Funeral Home
5:00 - 7:00 pm (Central time)
Dale L. Detrick, 72, of rural Gladstone, Illinois, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 7:39 a.m.
Dale was born in Monmouth, Illinois on January 22, 1954, the son of Orval L. and Cora L. (Brown) Detrick. He graduated from Union High School in 1972 and married Linda D. Harr on December 6, 1975 at the Olena Church in Olena, Illinois.
Dale is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda of Gladstone; two sons, Aaron (Neary) Detrick of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and Duston (Claudia) Detrick of Naperville; his four beloved grandchildren, Penelope, Olivia, Lincoln, and Logan; and one sister, Esther Grimes of Monmouth. Along with his parents, Dale was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Forrest, and Jerry; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Higdon and Nancy Galbraith.
Raised on the family farm, he spent his entire life doing what he loved most—farming. He cherished living on and caring for the farm he proudly took over from his parents, continuing the family tradition. In addition to farming, he retired after 20 years as a press operator at Winegard Company. Earlier in life, he also worked as a mechanic and managed the gas station in Oquawka.
Aside from being at home on the farm, Dale thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, spending as much time with his family as possible, taking car rides and day trips with Linda.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Oquawka, Illinois. No funeral services are planned. Cremation will be accorded following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Henderson County Health Department or Oquawka Fire Protection District. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
