Darlene K. Spiker

Darlene Kay Spiker, age 64 of Keithsburg, Illinois, passed away at 12:36 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on October 21, 1949 in Burns Township near Galva, Illinois, the daughter of James Robert and Willadean Leila Nelson. Darlene attended schools in the Galva School District and was a Class of 1967 graduate of Galva High School. On July 6, 1972, she married Tony LaVerne Spiker in Oquawka, Illinois and he is surviving. Darlene began her work at the Burlington Basket Co. as a machinist. She then worked at IAAP in Middletown, Iowa and later as an RN at the Burlington Medical Center. She last worked at the Mercer County Nursing Home as a CNA. Darlene was an avid bowler and participated in the leagues at the Millennium Lanes in Aledo, Illinos. She was also a collector of carnival glassware and Norman Rockwell artwork. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Oquawka. Darlene will be remembered as a loving and caring Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Tony, two daughters, Michelle Aman of Kewanee, IL and Tonya (Chris Lewis) Martens of Cambridge, IL, two sons, Tony L. Spiker II of Keithsburg, IL and Jefferey A. Spiker of Aledo, IL, two brothers, Brian (Patti) Nelson of Columbus, OH and Dennis (Annie) Nelson of Olathe, KS, twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a son-in-law, and one son, James. Services:A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, March, 28, 2014 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 pm. Interment will follow the service at the Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established for her grandchildren's educational fund.
