Darrell Gene Crandall, age 68, of Kirkwood, Illinois; passed away at his Kirkwood residence on September 24, 2011 at 8:00 am. He was born May 25, 1943 in Sikeston, Missouri and is the son of Gerald and Daisy Wilburn Crandall. He was raised in Kirkwood and graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1961. He then briefly attended WIU at Macomb, Illinois. He also was a member of the Army Reserve in Canton, Illinois. Gene was married to Thelma L. Barnett on April 17, 1965 at the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. She is surviving. Gene has been a grain farmer all of his life and farmed Crandall farms in Warren County for over thirty years. He also was a Realtor in the area being a very good salesman. Most recently Gene worked in maintenance at Monmouth Hospital for a time. Gene was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was very handy being able to fix about anything. He enjoyed his coffee and his friends at the Maple City Restaurant. He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Kirkwood, Illlinois and daughter Paula (Jeff) Storm of Ramsey, Minnesota. One son Brad ( Leslie) Crandall of Andover, Minnesota and five grandchildren Jack, Grace, Lilly Crandall and Luke and Sam Storm. Gene's sister Vicky (Stan) Gilliland of Mattoon, Illinois and two brothers Fred (Iva) Crandall and Gary (Linda) Crandall, both of Monmouth, Illinois also survive.He is preceded in death by his parents. Services:A funeral service for Gene will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, on Wednesday September 28, 2011 at 10:30 am. His family plans to receive friends for the hour prior to the service Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established at a later date by his family.
