David "Kent" Devore

David "Kent" Devore, age 71, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 7:30 am at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Kent was born on August 28, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Dayton and Enid (McGraw) Devore. Kent was raised educated in Oquawka and graduated from Gladstone and Oquawka High School in 1959. He was a certified Master technician through the Evinrude technical school. Kent married Barbara Jeanne Smith on August 5, 1961 in Biggsville, Illinois. Kent began work with his father Dayton at the Devore Garage in Oquawka. In 1957, the Devore family established and operated Devore Marina in Oquawka, spanning 4 generations of the family. Beginning in 1984, he worked for the City of Galesburg Water Department, retiring in 2003. Kent was a member of the first team of paramedics staffing the Oquawka Ambulance Service. Kent was a member of the Rozetta Baptist Church. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and antique cars. Throughout his life, Kent's highest priority was always his family. Kent is survived by his wife Barbara, three sons; Dean (Marcy) Devore of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; Kirk (Amy) Devore of Lakeland, Florida; and Jerry (Tracie) Devore of Sharpsville, Indiana, and on brother, Hal (Eunice) Devore of Galesburg, Illinois. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Joshua, Amber Dooper, Clark, Lance, Mitchell, Ashley, and Austin. Services:Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11:00 am at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. A visitation with the family receiving friends will be Friday, June 28, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Rozetta Baptist Church or the Oquawka Ambulance Service.
