Delbert J. Blindt, age 82, of Biggsville, Illinois passed away at his residence on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:30 am. Delbert was born on December 14, 1930 and is the son of Harry J. and Ida M. (Krittenbrink) Blindt. Delbert received his early education in West Point Iowa where he attended local schools. "Del" was inducted into the Marine Corps and proudly served his country in the Korean War as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged in January, 1954. Delbert was married to Bertha L. Krow on December 1, 1956 in West Point, Iowa, and she is surviving. Upon his return, he attended the Zach Monroe Barber School in Peoria, Illinois and he received his barbers certification in January of 1957. Delbert began his apprenticeship and employment with "Burts" Barber Shop in Carthage, Illinois. He then purchased the barbering business of John Hickman in Biggsville, Illinois opening "Dels" Barber Shop which he has operated locally up until this last year. Delbert was one of a few with the ability and willingness to cut " flattops" and cut hair for many in their own homes and in the nursing home. He was a member of St.Andrews Catholic Church in Oquawka, Illinois and presently a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. He also was a member of the Biggsville American Legion. Surviving him are his wife, Bertha L. Blindt of Biggsville, Illinois, one daughter, Christina M. (Jerry) Carnes of Biggsville, Illinois, and one son, Mark E. (Teresa) Blind, also of Biggsville, Illinois. Eight grandchildren, Michael J. (Kim Wilson) Blindt II of Monmouth, IL; Tyler (Natalie) Blindt of Gladstone, IL; Cheyenne Blindt of Marshalltown, IA, Teigan Blindt of Grandger, IA; Scott Blindt of Burlington, IA; Noah (Kelly) Blindt of Farmington, IL; Jason (Stephanie) Carnes, and Brenda Carnes, both of Biggsville, IL. Six great Grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. One sister, LaVerne (Tom) Bartlett in Green Valley, Arizona, and three brothers, Ed (Anita) Blindt of West Point, IA; Adrian Blindt of Topeka, KS; Kenneth (Kathy) Blindt of Shelbyville, TN. Several Nieces and Nephews also are surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Michael, and 2 Brothers...Roland Blindt and Richard Blindt Services:A prayer service and visitation are planned on Friday evening at Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville, IL at 5:00 pm. His family plans visitation with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 following the prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday February 9, 2013 with burial to follow in the Biggsville Township Cemetery.
