Dennis Wayne Hammitt

Dennis Wayne Hammitt, age 59, of Monmouth, passed away at 5:12 p.m., April 18, 2008, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Dennis was born on June 29, 1948, in Webster City, Iowa. He is the son of Darrell D. and Vera J. Bullock Hammitt. He was reared and educated in Moline, Illinois, where he attended Moline public Schools, and graduated from Moline High School in 1966. Dennis married the love of his life, Dorothy VanWinkle on August 6, 1966, in Moline. Dennis and his family moved to the Monmouth area in 1978. He first worked as a farm hand for many years. He then went to work at Equipco in Monmouth for 14 years. Dennis also worked at Farmland Foods for 13 years, as a security guard, and also went to work on the floor. Dennis retired from Farmland in 2004. Dennis was an avid craftsman, he enjoyed building models, and all type of craft work, he enjoyed playing golf, camping, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Dennis is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Monmouth, three sons; Dennis Hammitt of Monmouth, Dave Hammitt and Jennifer of Oquawka, Illinois, and Derick Hammitt of Monmouth. Also surviving is one daughter; Donna Hammitt of Monmouth, and nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers. Services:Cremation has been accorded, and no service is being planned at this time.
