Dolores M. Clark

Dolores M. Clark, age 85, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at her home in Monmouth. She was born on October 30, 1933, the daughter of Frederick "Art" and Eva "Foustine" (Mincher) Hoy. Dolores was a graduate of Monmouth High School, where she was awarded letters in typing and shorthand. Dolores medaled in many state competitions. She later took many classes at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. She married Sammy Eugene Clark on October 30, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1983. Dolores later married Harland Paul Sollenberger and he passed on March 15, 1997. She began work at a local law office while in high school. Dolores later worked at the offices of Vitality Mills and General Telephone, and she was the Monmouth City Collector for 15 years. She worked at El Segundo Restaurant and the Elks Club for a time. Dolores later worked as a group home administrator for Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth for 15 years where she was honored for her work by Congress. Dolores was a Certified C.P.R. Instructor for the American Red Cross. In retirement, she kept records at the Strom Center until October, 2017. Dolores was Baptized at the Ninth Avenue UP Church on April 10, 1938 and joined the congregation on April 4, 1948. She later transferred to the West Side UP Church, the Heritage UP Church, where she was a Deacon and Treasurer for many years. Later, Dolores was a member of the First Christian Church, and recently, Immanuel Baptist Church. She was involved in numerous Church activities. Dolores loved puzzles, sewing, embroidery, puppies, and kitties. Dolores was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Dolores is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Hanson and Sandy Clark, both of Monmouth, Illinois, three sons, Dennis Clark of Monmouth, Illinois; Richard (Annette) Clark of Monmouth, Illinois; and Kenneth (Merrilyn) Clark of Monmouth, Illinois, seven grandchildren, Heather Jackson, Adam Clark, Kyrie Sprinkle, Alaura Clark, Joseph A. Clark, Thomas Clark, and Samuel Clark. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and nieces Cindy Romano and Pamela Jo Brown, and nephews Keith Hoy and Joseph E. Clark. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Frederick III, and granddaughter, Mary. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Warren County Memorial Park Mausoleum. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church or Western Illinois Animal Rescue, both of Monmouth.
