Don F. Zurmuehlen died on October 11, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House in Burlington, Ia.Born August 31, 1932 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Frederick S. Zurmuehlen and Marguerite Loserth Zurmuehlen. On December 27, 1953, he married Donna R. Galbraith in Gladstone, Illinois.Mr. Zurmuehlen was a farmer and did electric work for many years. He graduated from Burlington High School and Iowa State University with a degree in Agriculture. He served with the U. S. Army in Germany.He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a Boy Scout scout master, was on the Henderson County Farm Bureau board, the Stockland FS board serving as president for several years. He was a director of the Western Illinois Farm Business Farm Management service. He also taught a practical electricity class at Southeastern Community College for many years.He enjoyed his life farming, feeding cattle, doing electrical work, and the people he worked with, especially the Bob Bailey family. He also liked to travel and any water activities including SCUBA diving, boating, and kayaking.Survivors include his wife, daughter Ann (Tom Mayer) of Indianapolis, IN, son Dan of Ames, IA, and sister Mary (Bob) Turain of Perrysburg, OH, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents. Services:Friends may call after Noon, Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville. There will be no family visitation. A funeral service will beat 2:00p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville. Interment will be in the Biggsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gladstone Methodist church or the Gladstone Fire Department.
