Donald L. "Don" Alexander, age 67, of Monmouth; passed away at 4:20 am January 28, 2008 at his Monmouth residence. Don was born July 1, 1940 in Industry, Illinois and is the son of John S. and Jessie E. Kelly Alexander. Don was raised in Industry, and came to Monmouth when he was in the eighth grade. He attended and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1958. Don entered service joining the Army and served stateside in Massachusetts and New York during Viet Nam from 1963 - 1965. He attained the rank of Spec 5. Don married Nancy K. Partington on July 29, 1962 in Monmouth, Illinois. She is surviving. Don first worked at Cavanaugh Motors as a mechanic and pumping gas. Later he worked as a mechanic at the Ford Garage, then for Ray Green Motors, all in Monmouth. Lastly Don worked as a mechanic for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation and for several years was their traveling mechanic for five area counties. Don's main interest was in his family and grandchildren. He is a member of First Christian Church in Monmouth. Don loved showing cars and attending car shows around the area. He was a member of the Maple City Car Club and the National Street Rod Association. Surviving Don is his wife Nancy of Monmouth, Illinois One Daughter Kris (Wayne) Breckon of Dubuque, Iowa, One Son Douglas ( Kim ) Alexander of Iowa City, Iowa. Five Grandchildren Kyle, Jessica, Zachary, Chelsea, and Alex. Don's Mother survives Jessie Alexander of Macomb, Illinois. Two Sisters Frances ( Leon ) Davis and Mary Frances Andersen, both of Macomb, Illinois. Four Brothers John (Zola) Alexander of Macomb, Illinois, Joe (Joanne) Alexander of Davenport, Iowa, Charles ( Connie) Alexander of Reynolds, Illinois, Wayne (Laura) Alexander of Cooperstown, New York. Preceding Don in his death is his father John Alexander. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday January 31st at First Christian Church in Monmouth, with interment and military honors following at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. His family plans a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois Memorials are designated for his church First Christian Church of Monmouth.
