Donald I. Hornbaker, age 77, of Monmouth, passed away at 8:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2009, at his residence. He was born on February 18, 1932 in Colchester, Illinois, the son of George and Maxine Sells Hornbaker. Donald was reared and educated in rural area of Berwick and Abingdon. Donald was first married to Helen Virginia Powell, he then married Carol McLaughlin in January of 1975 in Monmouth. Donald first worked at Wilson Foods in Monmouth as a meat cutter for eight years. While working at Wilson Foods, he also did trash hauling and rubbish removal. He then drove a cab for Bailey's Yellow Cab in Monmouth for a number of years. Don also sold fresh produce locally, mowed lawns, and did yard work. He was often seen driving his riding lawn mower. Surviving Donald is his wife Carol Hornbaker of Monmouth, two daughters; Lynn Poulson Sanderson of Coal Valley, Illinois and Sherry Alfaro and Steve of Galesburg, Illinois, one son, Donald W. "Bill" Hornbaker and Cindy of Galesburg. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters; Sandy Durbin of Eustis, Florida, and Sue Andrews and Ron of Cameron, Illinois, one brother, Gary Hornbaker, and Clara of Oxford, Arkansas. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, and one sister. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. His family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund is being established by his family.
