Donna J. Moore

Donna J. Moore, age 87, of Alexis, Illinois passed away peacefully at 10:25 am on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Seminary Manor Nursing home in Galesburg, Illinois where she had resided for three years. She was born July 8, 1928 in Aledo, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Myrtle Burgeson Hollembaek. Donna was raised and educated in Aledo, Illinois and graduated from New Windsor High School with the class of 1946. She married Richard C. Moore on September 12, 1947 and their love and devotion to each other has lasted for 68 years. The couple lived in the same lovely home in Alexis for 61 of those years, making a wonderful life for themselves and their five children. Donna was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor, IL and the Alexis Chapter of War Mothers, as her eldest son is a Vietnam veteran. She was employed as a clerk at Simpson's Antique Shop and Dahl Real Estate, both in Alexis. Donna's hobbies included making wool braided rugs, reading, and collecting and shopping for primitive antiques. She and her husband spent many hours refurbishing and refinishing "old finds" and turning them into lovely pieces for their home. She also enjoyed baking, and many family, friends and neighbors were grateful recipients of her thoughtful gifts. She loved gardening, and many trees were planted at their homestead under her special care. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard C. Moore of Alexis, three daughters, Joan (Bernie) Whalen of Macomb, IL, Terry (Don) Pheiffer of Wyoming, IL and Jennifer (Jimmy) Johnson of Tampa, FL, two sons, Jan (Jane) Moore of Jenison, MI and Gale (Trina) Moore of Keithsburg, IL She had twelve treasured grandchildren, who were always remembered with notes and cards on each of their birthdays and holidays, even through her years in the nursing home with her limited abilities. Her grandchildren are Brittany Brouwer, Ryan Apt, Holly Ryan, Andrea Eaton, Lori Rustom, Valerie Daum, Joshua Moore, Abigail, Grace, and Madeline Johnson, Allysa and Alex Lybarger. Her six great-grandchildren are Hayes, Callen, Dakota, Samuel, Jonathan and Blair. Visitation Her family will receive condolences at visitation on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Graveside Memorial Service A graveside memorial service is being planned for Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Alexis Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the War Memorial Board Fund in Alexis, Illinois and/or Harbor Light Hospice in Galesburg, Illinois.
