Doris R. (Bigger) Galley, age 87, of 507 Vernon, West Burlington, Iowa joined the hand of our Lord on December 23, 2010 in Dunlap, Illinois. Doris was born on December 30, 1922 in Smithshire, Illinois and is the daughter of Robert Edgar and Ruth Evelyn (Harbison) Bigger. She was raised and educated in Media and it's schools and graduated from Media Weaver Academy. She then attended Beauty School in Burlington, Iowa and then the Burlington Business School. She was married to Richard J. Galley on December 27, 1942; he preceded her in death on February 18, 1982. Doris was corporate secretary for J.C. Proctor for seventeen years until retiring. She then decided retirement was not for her and returned to the career world working at RLI. Doris was actively involved in many Peoria organizations for sixty years plus. A sampling of these organizations were Altrusa International,Inc.of Peoria, Credit Women International, Emblem Club 121 of Peoria, Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, YWCA, Peoria Federated Womens Club, Volunteer at American Cancer Society and University United Methodist Church. Three years ago Doris moved to West Burlington, Iowa, where she actively became involved with Red Hat Society, Volunteered for the Alzheimer Association, and belonged to West Burlington United Methodist Church. Doris loved life and adored her family especially watching her two great grand daughters participated in their sports activities. Additionally, Doris thoroughly enjoyed theater, reading, volunteering and her church. Doris did not know a stranger and will be remembered for her friendliness, her engaging personality, sense of humor and love of life. Doris is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Jon) Graham of Biggsville, IL; and Mavis (Mick) Miller of Dunlap, Illinois. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her granddaughter Lorella (Bill) McLaughlin of Edwardsville, IL; and two great granddaughters Karly and Hannah McLaughlin in Edwardsville. Doris is survived by four sisters, Maxine Ward of Fort Pierce, Florida, Mary Golden of LeMesa, California, Darlene (Heye) Peters of Brimfield, Illinois and Susie (Dale) Tennis of Spotsylvania, Virginia. One sister in law Mary G. Sinders of Peoria, Illinois survives. She also is survived by several nieces and one nephew and several great nieces and great nephews, cousins and many many friends. Also surviving is one special grand pup, Lexxie. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Frank R. Bigger. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday December 30, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans to receive friends at the funeral home for the hour prior to the service, 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A funeral service and encryptment will then be at 2:30 pm at the Resurrection Catholic Mausoleum in Peoria, Illinois. Her family plans to receive friends again for the hour prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the Mausoleum. A memorial fund is being established for the Children Home at 2130 North Knoxville, Peoria, IL 61603 or the West Burlington United Methodist Church at 308 Broadway, West Burlington, Iowa 52655.
