Dorothy P. Avery

Dorothy P. Avery, age 89, of Kirkwood, Ill., passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Ill. On March 12, 1920, Dorothy was born in Fulton County the daughter of Jessie and Caroline Sanford Fruit. Dorothy was reared and educated in Prairie City, Ill. Dorothy first married Elmer Jones. She later married Wilbur Avery. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1987. Dorothy was a homemaker. She retired from Western Stoneware as a finisher after 10 years. Her hobbies included playing bingo, going to the boat, playing cards, sewing, and traveling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Survivors are daughter Mary Jane (Leon) Morris of Monmouth, two sons, Ronnie (Cathy) Jones of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Roger Jones of Galesburg, Ill. 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Gloria Embry Jones of Waretown, New Jersey. Preceding Dorothy are her parents, both husbands, one son William Lee (Bill) Jones and son-in-law Wayne H. Clark. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, Ill. Her family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22 at Turnbull Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established.
