Dorothy I. Johnson

Dorothy I. Johnson, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, in Monmouth. Dorothy was born on July 2, 1917 the daughter of Elmer and Nellie Keener Johnson in Larchland, Illinois. She was raised and educated in Larchland. Dorothy graduated from Monmouth High School in 1936. Dorothy worked as a secretary first at Banker's Life Insurance and later as a clerk at Bowman Caldwell Department Store both in Monmouth. she then worked Meling's Restaurant in Monmouth for 25 years. Lastly she worked at Wal-Mart in Galesburg for 13 years as a greeter. Dorothy enjoyed needle work and crafts and participating in craft shows. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth where she worked in the office and was active in the Community Medical Center Auxiliary in Monmouth. Dorothy is survived by two nieces, Carol Ann Shinn of Monmouth, and Mrs. Betty (Joe) Davis of Ottumwa, Iowa, two great nieces, Julie Kay Davis of Sigourney, Iowa and Mrs. Debbie (Terry) Derby of Ottumwa, and two great great nephews, Cooper and Parker Derby of Ottumwa. Also surviving are several cousins. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Clarise. Services:A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Dorothy's family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A memorial fund is being established for First United Methodist Church in Monmouth.
