Dorothy E. Liby, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at her rural Monmouth home on Wednesday November 13th at 4:45 pm. Dorothy was born on October 3, 1922 in rural Roseville, Illinois and was the daughter of Herbert M and Pheobie J. Phillips Brown. She was raised in rural Warren County where she attended Boyd grade school, and Hoisington grade school, and then graduated from Roseville High School. She was married to John L. Liby on December 2, 1944 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1982. She first worked at the BlueBell plant making Denim Apparel in Abingdon, Illinois for five years, then came to Monmouth and worked at Formfit Company as a seamstress for sixteen years. She then was employed by the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, Iowa for a time. Dorothy then worked at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg for another fifteen years, until her retirement in 1987. She is survived by her daughter in law Elizabeth Anne Liby (the former Mrs.David, deceased) of Monmouth, Illinois and four granddaughters Elleen (Albert) McLaughlin, Leesa (Rex) Farmer, and Janet Holmberg,( the late Kirby ) all of Monmouth, and Linda (Nate) Marston of Stronghurst, Illinois. There are three grandsons Mark, Roger, and James Liby. Nine great grandchildren Ellissa and Hanna Dunton, Sarah, Kaitlyn, and Ryan Farmer, Emilee and Kyle Holmberg, and Katherine and Dalton Marston. Two brothers, Richard Brown of Monmouth, Illinois and Charles (Kathy) Brown of Bartonville, IL also survive. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons David and Harold, one daughter Martha Ann, three sisters and two brothers. A graveside service for the committal of ashes will be on Wednesday November 20, 2013 at 10:30 am at Monmouth Cemetery. No visitation is currently planned.
