Dorothy G. Petersen, age 81, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, on Monday September 8, 2008 at 2:28 am. Dorothy was born on August 23, 1927 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Harold M. and Harriet Troxel Goddard. She graduated from Monmouth High School, prior to receiving her BA Degree from Monmouth College. At Monmouth, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Dorothy married Herluf M. Petersen on September 10, 1949 in Monmouth, IL. Herluf preceded Dorothy in death on November 9, 2007. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She stayed active as an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Gamma (founding chapter) and a member of the MC Alumni Association. Those activities led to her involvement with the Minnie Stewart House Steering Committee, where she was in charge of acquisitions. She was a member of PEO (Chapter E), Monmouth Garden Club, her church women's circle, Bridge Club, and a birthday club with friends. She enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques, all crafts including needlework, sewing, ceramics, and her pride and joy, gardening. Dorothy enjoyed vacationing at their Michigan cottage, in the woods off Crystal Lake, with her husband and family, extending to grandchildren. Dorothy was a twenty-eight year survivor of colon cancer and associated complications. Surviving Dorothy is her son, Jim Petersen (Sandy) Edina, MN; her grandchildren, Courtney Petersen, Lincoln Park, IL and Katie Petersen, Kansas City, KS; her sisters, Helen Rehn, Monmouth and Kathryn (Dr. Roger Fritz), Naperville, IL; sister-in-law Ellen Norskov, Albion, NE; nieces and nephews Nancy Fritz, Susan Fritz, Terry Rehn (Jill), Bob Rehn (Sherry) and Jane Linman. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, oldest son Chuck, and sister Evelyn Linman. Services:A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth on Friday September 12th at 10:00 am. Her family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Thursday afternoon, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial funds are being established for either the Minnie Stewart House (founding home of Kappa Kappa Gamma) or the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth, IL.
