Dorothy Parker Woodall ("Dot") passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 12, 2017 at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth, Illinois. Dot was 91. Dot was born in Yakima, Washington on February 9, 1926. Several years after the death of her father, Dot, her sister Beatrice and their widowed mother Faye Parker moved to Webster City, Iowa, a move that was completed the summer prior to Dot's freshman year at Webster City High School in 1939. It was early in that Freshman Year at Webster City High School that she would meet Wendall Warren Woodall ("Woody"), who years later would become her husband. After graduating in the Spring of 1943, Dot attended the University of Iowa (while Woody played Summer "ball" for the St. Louis Cardinals "A" team in Johnson City, TN and enlisted in the Army Air Corps for the duration of WW II), where she was active as a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and graduated with a degree in Journalism. After graduating, Dot married Woody at her family home in Webster City on Memorial Day, May 30, 1948. While their plan that their anniversary would always be celebrated on a holiday failed (Memorial Day is no longer date specific) their love for each never did. Their love flourished until Woody's death on May 25, 2015. Sixty-seven years of marriage, almost to the day, without "a single fight" she would say and to the best of our knowledge, there never was one. After their marriage ceremony, Dot worked various jobs to "put Woody through Iowa Teachers College" (University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Upon Woody's graduation, they moved to Denison, Iowa for his first job, where Woody coached for several years under Glen Stavenhagen. It was "Stavy" that influenced Woody to teach and coach in Monmouth, Illinois, so Dot and Woody (and their one year old son Dana) moved to Monmouth in the Summer of 1955. After the birth of a second son (Bill) in 1956, Dot attended Western Illinois University, obtained her teaching certificate and in 1963 started teaching Physical Education throughout the Monmouth elementary schools. Dot later taught for a number of years at Monmouth Central Junior High School. Several years after retiring from full-time teaching Central Junior High School, Dot (on very short notice) was asked to teach Elementary Physical Education and Rhythmic Activities at Monmouth College. You can only imagine the surprise to the local college students' faces when they were introduced to their former elementary and junior high school PE teacher that first day of class at Monmouth College. Over the years Dot and Woody traveled extensively in all fifty states, shared a love for tennis, golf at Monmouth Country Club and most outdoor activities. Dot was a disciplined bridge player (her mother Faye was outstanding) and she loved to dance (even with Woody). Dot is survived by both of her sons Dana and Bill. Dana and his wife Chris are the parents of Parker Woodall and Kyle Woodall, residing in Woodstock, Illinois. Bill lives in Dallas, Texas. Dot was preceded in death by both of her parents, William Parker and Fay Parker Hahne, and her older sister Beatrice Parker. A thank you to all of her friends that have helped to make her life a wonderful 91 years and a very, very special thank you to the staff and management at Courtyard Estates for their affection and attention to Dot. You guys are the best. Memorial Service A memorial service will be announced in the early summer.
