Earl E. Way, age 90, of Monmouth, IL; passed away at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois on July 5th, at 4:25 am. Earl was born on January 1, 1923 in DeLong, Illinois and is the son of Ernest Earl and Minnie VanFleet Way. He was raised in Wataga, Illinois where he attended public schools and Knoxville High School, graduating with the class of 1940. Earl enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on August 11, 1942 and served during World War II in the South Pacific. He is an Iwo Jima survivor and did service in Guam, Guadalcanal, and Bougainville. Earl was married to Mary Louise Adams on June 15, 1945 in Galesburg, Illinois and she survives. Earl first was employed by the C B & Q railroad for a time, then began farming with his brother in law, Arnold Ischer. He has been a grain and livestock farmer all of his adult career here in Warren County. He is a member and past post commander of the Marion B. Fletcher post 136 of the American Legion and Life member of forty-six years in the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301. He is a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church. Earl enjoyed being with his family and at the cabin on the Mississippi river, where they enjoyed boating and fishing. For the past ten years they wintered in Naples, Florida. He also liked to play cards with family and friends. Earl is survived by his wife Mary L. Way of Monmouth, IL; two daughters, Anita Fillman and Diane (Larry) Hippen both of Monmouth, IL; and one son Geary (Dory) Way also of Monmouth, Illinois. There are eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren surviving. Services:A memorial service for Earl is planned on Saturday July 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans a visitation with the family being present at the funeral home for an hour prior to the service, 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday July 20th. Memorial funds have been established for either the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion or the Coldbrook Christian Church.
