Edith M. Diehl

Edith M. Diehl, age 87, of Monmouth, passed away at 2:35 a.m., July 7, 2011 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Edith was born on April 17, 1924 in rural Seaton, Ill., she is the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Haney Olson. She was reared and educated in Henderson and Mercer counties. Edith married Clifford E. Diehl on May 30, 1947 at the St. Mary's Rectory in Keithsburg, Ill., he preceded her in death on September 6, 2000. Edith was a beautician in her home for many years. She also taught ceramics in her home too. Edith worked as a housekeeper for many years at Turnbull Funeral Home. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth where she was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society. Edith was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving Edith are grandsons Jeff Diehl and Brandon Diehl both of Iowa, sister Mary Steele of Monmouth, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Stephen, her brothers; Frank Olson, Fred Olson, John Olson, and Bert Olson, and sisters; Martha Pratt, Ethel Olson and Martha Olson. Services:A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth. A memorial fund has been established for Immaculate Conception School in Monmouth.
